During the announcement, the film will explore the origin of the Saiyans. The film will also discover behind the scenes of Goku and co.’s power. Akira Toriyama stated that he will be designing the characters for the film. Toei Animation promises the film will be “stronger” with a “more interesting story” beyond the previous films.

The film will take place after the Tournament of Power from Dragon Ball Super.[4] Toriyama said he wrote the film himself with the intention of explaining more about the Saiyans and Freiza, as well as introducing a new villain in the story. It was also rumoured that it will feature the first Super Saiyan God (Yamoshi) who was announced in 2017.[5]

The film is set to be released in Japan on December 14, 2018 with plans for a worldwide release. [6][7]
