Ustad Ghulam Mohammad Khan, also known as Babaji, was a sarangi player from Hoshiarpur who was considered to be among the best of his time.[1]
He was associated with the court of the Nawab of Hyderabad Deccan and was highly regarded for his performances at private gatherings of Nawab.[1]
Early life and family[edit]
Khan was born in 1906.
His grandson, Gul Muhammad Hussain, is a sarangi player in Pakistan and earn ₨ 20,000 a month.[2]
Career[edit]
Khan first learned sarangi from his father Bahadur Ali.[citation needed] After the death of his father he continued under his uncle Ghulam Hussain Khan and also under well-known sarangi player Mamman Khan, uncle of Bundu Khan, and Raheem Bukhsh Shamapuri.[citation needed]
He was a teacher of Pakistani musician Noor Jehan.[3]
Death[edit]
He died in 2000 at the age of 94,[4] and about one and a half month before the death of Noor Jehan.[5]
