Vageswari Deswal is an Indian academic, feminist, jurist, author and activist who teaches at Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. She has written scholarly articles on various new areas of law, including violence against women, and frequently writes legal commentary in Indian news media.
Education and career[edit]
Deswal attended Maharshi Dayanand University for her schooling. She completed a BA in 1996, a postgraduate diploma in Labour Laws and Personnel Management in 1997, and a 2-year LLM degree in 2000.[1] She remained for a PhD, which she completed in 2007.[1] Her thesis was titled Legal protection to working Women in India: Problems and issues, and was advised by K. P. S. Mahalwar.[2]
Upon completing her LLM, Deswal began working as an assistant professor of Law at Maharshi Dayanand.[1] She moved in 2005 to the University of Delhi,[3] where she was promoted through the ranks, reaching full professor in 2020.[1]
Deswal has served as the editor of the Delhi Journal of Contemporary Law.[4] She is the Treasurer of the All India Law Teachers Congress,[5] as well as a member of the Indian Society of International Law, the Institute for Constitutional and Parliamentary Studies, and the Indian Law Institute.[3] She is also on advisory board of various academic bodies and non government organisations.[6] She is a special invitee of various academic institutions.[7][8][9]
Research[edit]
Deswal's work has been cited by the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada.[10] She is the Project Director for the Indian Council of Social Science Research project for the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, "Agrarian Issues and Plight of Farmers."[11]

Deswal has frequently written expert commentary in news media,[12] including The Economic Times[13]/The Times of India[14][15][16][17] and Yahoo News India.[18] Deswal has also been quoted for her expert opinion by The Quint,[19] The Times of India,[20] and ABC News (Australia).[21]
