Production
Suriya announced officially on 28 March 2022 that his next film, tentatively titled Suriya 41, is directed by Bala and produced by Jyothika and Suriya under 2D Entertainment.[2] On Bala's birthday, Suriya released the first look poster and the title Vanangaan in Tamil and Achaludu in Telugu.[3] This is Suriya and Bala's third collaboration after Nandha and Pithamagan. [5] Supposedly Suriya will play a dual role, one who is deaf and mute and the other will be his father. Although this remains unconfirmed by the team. [6]
Actress Krithi Shetty was signed in to play the female lead opposite Suriya in this film.[7] Actor/Producer RK Suresh also lauded the film, stating that the film consists of only three or four characters, and that the script has turned out excellent.
The film shooting was initially planned to be completed entirely in 3 months, however stopped in June due to a reported tiff between the lead actor and director. Following this, Vanangaan was rumoured to have been dropped completely, which Suriya debunked with an Instagram post with the director stating that 'he couldn't wait to be back on sets.' It's now been reported that shooting will resume for the film only once Suriya finishes his commitment with director Siva. It will be shot and completed parallel to Suriya's magnum opus VaadiVaasal.
