Vector 2 is a 2016 platform game developed by Russian studio Nekki and is the sequel to Vector.
Plot
Vector 2 continues the storyline of the original and takes the player back to the dreary world of the future, in which the eye of Big Brother (antagonist) keeps track of all actions of the people. The protagonist, known from the first installment, was eventually captured by security forces, but instead of killing him, the antagonists decide to use his skills to test some new equipment in a secret research facility.
Gameplay
Unlike the first game, there is no one pursuing the protagonist. Obstacles like bombs, lasers, and mines are present. Only certain levels have checkpoints, so the player has to survive sets of levels without being killed. The player can also be equipped with Armors, Helms, and Gloves for a better chance of survival. It is harder to make it to the easier path of two alternatives. Sometimes a "chip" is required to unlock a path.
Reception
Dan Vlasic of PocketMeta wrote, "Vector 2 seems to add some flesh onto the minimalist bones of the first games, and the backgrounds and details of the environment look more crisp. However, it’s not all gold that glitters."[1]
Recombu, in their review of the iOS version, wrote, "Vector 2 doesn’t shake up the winning gameplay, but adds a bunch of extra features including armored outfits that can be upgraded and pimped out to give you a better chance of survival."[2]
Reviewing the Android version, Tre Lawrence of AndroidRunDown said, "For those of us that were engaged in the original, this new game should be delightfully nostalgic."[3]
According to aggregate game ranker Whatoplay, Vector 2's Android release has earned an aggregate rating (playscore) of 8.08.[4] Its iOS release, on the other hand, has earned a gamerscore of 8.80 based on 5.51K user reviews.[5]
Prequels and Spinoffs
Vector 2 is the prequel to Vector, which had witnessed three spinoff games, Shadow Fight, Shadow Fight 2 and Shadow Fight 3.
