Vega flight VV08 was the launch of Göktürk-1 on board the 8th flight of the Vega launcher.

Payload[edit]

The flight was a single-payload mission that put the Göktürk-1 Earth observation satellite into orbit. The total payload mass was about 1,140 kilograms (2,510 lb), including the satellite and its adapter.[1][2]

Göktürk-1 (also designated Göktürk-1A), had a launch mass of approximately 1,060 kilograms (2,340 lb), and was the only satellite on board the flight. It has a design lifetime of 7 years and 3 months.[1][2][3]

Göktürk-1 was Thales Alenia Space 145th and Turkey's 6th (the 1st Earth observation) spacecraft to be launched by Arianespace.[1][2]

Mission description[edit]

The launch occurred from the ELV launch pad at the Guiana Space Centre in Kourou, French Guiana, on 5 December 2016 at 13:51:44 UTC (10:51:44 local time) as planned.[1][2]

The mission was planned to last 57 minutes and 19 seconds from lift-off until separation, placing its payload into a quasi-circular sun-synchronous target orbit at an altitude of about 700 kilometres (430 mi).[1][2]

It was the 282nd Arianespace mission (the 10th in 2016), and the 8th Vega launch (the 2nd in 2016).[1][2]
