Vega flight VV14 was the launch of the PRISMA satellite by the 14th Vega launcher.[1]
Payload[edit]
The payload, composed of the PRISMA satellite, its adapter, and its dispenser, was approximately 953.5 kilograms (2,102 lb) in total mass.[1]
PRISMA is a hyper-spectral electro-optical Earth observation satellite of the Italian Space Agency. It had a launch mass of 879 kilograms (1,938 lb) and a design operational lifetime of 5 years. It was deployed 54 minutes and 8 seconds after launch into a sun-synchronous orbit with a mean local time of the descending node of 10:30 and an altitude of roughly 615 km.[2]
It was the 600th (70th Earth observation) and the Italian Space Agency's 3rd satellite launched by Arianespace.[1]
Flight[edit]
The launch occurred from the ELV launch pad at the Guiana Space Centre in Kourou, French Guiana, on 22 March 2019 at 01:50 UTC (21 March 2019 at 22:50 local time). It was the 308th Arianespace mission (the 3rd in 2019), and the 14th successful Vega launch (the 1st in 2019).[1]
