Ventenner is an industrial rock band from London, England.

Early Years

Ventenner was formed in 2009. Founded as a solo project of vocalist and producer Charlie Dawe, initial song ideas were written and recorded, and an early demo album - Dead Reflections - was released on a limited CD pressing. Initial efforts to adapt these early songs to a live setting proved problematic and Charlie would often perform live sets alone with a laptop. Initial interest in the project from early live performances led to an offer from newly formed independent label Sonic Fire Records, and writing sessions for the debut album began. This Is The Reason was released in 2012 on Sonic Fire.[1] Following the release, Ventenner started to create a small fanbase and the album received a minimal but positive response in the press.

Distorture (2013-2016)

After the release of This Is The Reason, Ventenner had started to establish itself on the London industrial/electronic scene, and a desire to create a better crafted album was shaping early demo ideas for a follow-up release. Ventenner now had three full time members after recruiting Jonno Lloyd and Luke Jacobs, and all were involved in the writing process. Recording took place on Platt's Eyot island in the summer of 2013 at Radar Sounds studio, and after an extensive post-production period and PR campaign, Distorture was released in September 2014 on Sonic Fire Records. The album was praised for its dark, immersive sound and nostalgic feel of 90s alternative and industrial rock.[2] The band supported the release with live performances during this period, including shows opening for The Young Gods, 3Teeth, Orgy, Sheep on Drugs, Mortiis and Hanzel Und Gretyl.

Invidia (2017)

The previous two years had seen Ventenner play live consistently, grow their fanbase and industry attention, and expand into a four piece. The band had also adopted more of a guitar-heavy sound playing live, and subsequently new song ideas were shaping up to be more aggressive and guitar based.[3] Recorded in the summer of 2016 at Priory Studios, Invidia was released in January 2017 on Hibernacula Records. Despite receiving mixed reviews from some of the more electronic music-orientated fanbase, the album was well received in the press and gave the band a wider international exposure.[4] In support of the album, Ventenner embarked on the Invidia 2017 Tour, playing across the UK and opening for bands including Skinny Puppy, KMFDM, Author & Punisher and Revolting Cocks. The tour also saw the departure of bass guitarist Ben Martin who was replaced with current bass guitarist Cat La Chapelle.

Fragments, Ataxia and Killing Jar (2018-2019)

After the busy Invidia schedule, the band took a short break from recording and live shows. 2018 only included two live performances, supporting Julien-K and Jayce Lewis. Inspired by time on the road and being exposed to new bands on tour, the two singles Ataxia and Killing Jar were written and recorded in London in 2018[5][6][7]. Both singles were later released as part of the Versions EP, which included various remixes of the two singles, an unreleased song and a collaboration with doom band Cold In Berlin.

During the same year Ventenner also released Fragments, a collection of B-sides, unreleased songs, remixes and alternate versions of previous songs[8]. Both the album and EP were released on Syndicol Music. In 2019 Ventenner embarked on a UK tour, headlining on the spring leg with UK electronic band Bone Cult as support, and opening for New York witch house pioneers White Ring on the autumn leg.

Hollow Storm (2020)

In September 2019 it was announced that a new album was in progress. After some delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the album was recorded throughout the summer of 2020 in London and the new record, Hollow Storm, was released November 6th on Syndicol Music[9]
