Victor Mitrana (born June 26, 1958) is a Professor of Computer Science at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Bucharest. He is known for his contributions to formal languages and automata theory, as well as DNA computing. He is author of [1] and coeditor of the collection of essays Grammars and Automata for String Processing: From Mathematics and Computer Science to Biology, and Back.[2]
He received his Ph.D. from the University of Bucharest in 1993 under the direction of Gheorghe Paun. During Mitrana's career, he was awarded the Romanian Academy for his research in theoretical computer science, a Humboldt Fellowship at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg from the Alexander Humboldt Foundation, and a Santiago Ramon y Cajal at the Rovira i Virgili University in Taragonna.
