Vernon Caisley (born 20th June 1991) better known as Vital Powers or Vital is a British born grime MC[1], rapper, actor, entrepreneur[2] and BBC WM radio presenter [3][4] from Wolverhampton. His music has been played on national radio stations such as BBC R1, BBC 1Xtra and Capital Xtra. In 2016, Vital performed alongside Coldplay, The Weekend, Ellie Goulding and Chase and Status at the BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend in Exeter [5].

Background[edit]

Vital Powers is the eldest son of three boys raised by his mother in the Dunstall Hill area of Wolverhampton, UK. His parents are British Jamaicans. Being raised in a Jamaican household has heavily influenced Vital's Music. Vital attended East Park Primary followed by Heath Park School. He went on to study a degree in Interactive Media and the Web at the University of Wolverhampton, graduating in 2012.

Career[edit]

Vital has been releasing music since the age of 15, performing freestyles on popular grime beats such as the "Woo Riddim" produced by S-X. Vital's freestyles and music video's have been featured on Channel AKA (formerly Channel U), Link Up TV[6], SB.TV[7] and other online outlets.

In 2014 Vital released his single "Love For Grime" on a beat produced by South East London's Splurgeboys. This single was selected as BBC Radio 1Xtra track of the week. The following year DJ Target[8] and Huw Stephens chose Vital to perform at their BBC Introducing showcase in Birmingham. In 2015, Vital's song "Dead or Dying" was part of "This is UK Grime Vol 4" compilation released by Defenders Entertainment, a London based record label.

On April 16th 2017 Vital sold out his first headline show at The Slade Rooms[9][10] in his hometown Wolverhampton. The following year Vital returned to The Slade Rooms to headline "The Clean Hearts Only" Show[11] on the 10th June 2018.

In 2018 he began presenting for BBC Radio WM[12][3] hosting a weekly show with a focus on arts and culture. He also supported the BBC introducing show which showcases unsigned artists in the West Midlands.

During the COVID-19 pandemic Vital started working at Ditto Music as a Content Creator and YouTube personality presenting tips to unsigned artists covering topics such as marketing, music production and Nfts[13].
