Early life

Wailin Swagger was born in 1981 in Santiago, Dominican Republic, to Dominican parents. At the age of five, he immigrated to New York, United States.

Music career

From 1995–1996, he studied music at John Jay High School in Brooklyn, New York, learning to play the trombone. Every time he got out of school, he used to meet up with friends and started rapping and composing songs. In 1997, he was part of a merengue group called Welbin y Su Mambo Puro, marking his first time singing in front of a large audience. Two years later, Wailin Swagger decided to join a bachata band, choosing to continue with bachata because of his family roots. In 2004, he received his Associate's degree from IENET. That same year, he decided to move to Philadelphia, PA, where he currently resides. For two years, music took a backseat in his life because he was the head of the household and had to work harder. During the nights, Wailin Swagger worked as a DJ at various nightclubs and bars. A year later, he decided to record a mixed single with Puerto Rican urban singer Chino Mentao, which was never released due to Chino Mentao moving from Philadelphia. In 2010, he worked with Watatah as a backup singer at the Philadelphia Dominican parade. In 2012, he released a single in collaboration with his friend DJ Jazzy Rey, which was only released on YouTube. In 2013, Wailin Swagger launched his solo career with a single called Ahora Tu. "Ahora Tu" is a cover song that was transformed from a balada to bachata. This song was well-received by the public, obtaining over 300,000 views. After “Ahora Tu”, Wailin Swagger continued his music career. He was well-received by Dominican audiences in the Dominican Republic and the United States. In 2019, Wailin Swagger was promoting his latest single, Simplemente Tu. It has been well-received by his fans and achieved a good position on the Latin Billboard charts.
