Amit Jaiwant Naik, better known by his stage name WAKING GRUNT (born on 25 April 1991), is an Indian rapper, Singer, Lyricists from Goa, India. Gained popularity in Goa after the release of The Matka Anthem a parody song in Konkani set to Ed Sheeran's popular tune Shape of You.[1] and also "Wake-up call" [2]
Career[edit]
Amit Naik, a former Junior Mining Engineer who chose to pursue music as a career and formed Waking Grunt after the closure of Mining Industries in Goa[3], currently recognized as the Talented Singer in Goa of Goan origin.[4]
Early years[edit]
'Waking Grunt' started as a parody Konkani YouTube Channel[5]. And rose to fame after creating social awareness songs and Music Videos in English, Konkani and Hindi[6] Some of the famous tracks are The Pappu Song [7]The Matka Anthem[8], Stop Child Labour, Kaddyaan Podlo[9], Mog Zala Maka song by Alison Gonsalves Featuring Waking Grunt[10], Bhiee.. Tuka late zalo song gone viral on Facebook.[11]
Film contributions[edit]
'Waking Grunt' most notably contributed for the Swapnil Shetkar's[12] Konkani Film Questao De Confusao[13] with the promotional song.[14] Which had its commercial release in Goa.[15]
He also collaborated with Film Director Milroy Goes from Goa for the WELCOME M1LL10NS which featured a snippet of khaddyaan Podlo[16] Konkani parody song. Movie was released in Los Angeles United States of America and also contested at 91st Academy Awards.[17]
