Walter Hammerl

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Walter Hammerl (1952 in Graz - February 1981 in Oberedelstauden[1]) was an Austrian musician, conference organiser, and manager.

Hammerl worked with Thomas Spitzer and Gert Steinbäcker as part of Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung, and he became their manager in 1977 as well as an occasional vocalist for the band [2]. Until 1981, he resided with Spitzer, Steinbäcker, Nino Holm, Eik Breit, Anders Stenmo, and Günther Schönberger on a farm owned by the band. It was there in February 1981 that Hammerl was found to have died by suicide by hanging[3]. He had attempted suicide once before. He was a close friend of Klaus Eberhartinger, who briefly took over his duties (these duties were then taken over by Günther Schönberger). Bandmate Thomas Spitzer commented that it was worrying how close the band felt to Walter Hammerl, but without actually knowing him.
