Wavecom Australia (also known as Wavecom Instruments) is an Australian industrial manufacturer that develops and manufactures devices used for portable appliance testing, in addition to other devices used for electrical safety testing.
Background
Wavecom was founded in 1993 by George Stamelos in Norwood, a suburb of Adelaide. Initially, Wavecom was primarily focused on distributing electrical and electronic test and measurement products. The introduction of standards for in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment, and a lack of dedicated solutions for this type of testing in Australia drove Wavecom to develop their first electrical testing device designed specifically to conduct appliance testing. Wavecom is currently based in Adelaide, Australia, with a branch in Perth, Australia, and a network of distributors across Australia and New Zealand.
TnT and TnP Portable Appliance Testers
TnT is a range of portable appliance testers developed by Wavecom. The term is an acronym for 'Test and Tag', referring to the commonly used description of in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment in Australia. They are primarily small, handheld devices designed for low volume usage.
Wavecom have developed 5 generations of TnT products. Early generations originally featured basic appliance testing facilities, though later generations expanded on these offerings by including earth leakage testing and PC connectivity (Generation 3), Residual Current Device testing (Generation 4)[1], and most recently Bluetooth connectivity (Generations 5)[2].
TnP is a range of portable appliance test kits also developed by Wavecom using the same technology as the TnT range, with the addition of tag printing functionality. They are larger devices and are designed for regular to high volume use.
Originally designed as an extension of the TnT range, the TnP range was first sold as the TnP-500[3] and featured an integrated thermal transfer tag printer, keyboard for data entry, barcode scanner, and asset management software. Later TnP models include the TnP Prime, featuring Bluetooth connectivity and app integration, and the TnP 3PLM, a variant on the TnP Prime designed for 3 phase testing.
Software
Wavecom provides a portable appliance testing and asset management software called WinPATS to address the need for record keeping of electrical testing results. Originally a Windows-based application, WinPATS is now a cloud-based app accessible via web browser and an Android app[4].
