Waves is an Indian state-owned subscription-based over-the-top media streaming platform launched by Prasar Bharati,[1] India's national public broadcaster, under its network Doordarshan.[2][3][4] The platform offers a diverse range of content, including classic television shows, live TV, radio streaming, and original programming.[5][6][7]

Overview

Waves was launched as part of Prasar Bharati's initiative to modernize its digital presence and compete with private OTT platforms and was officially unveiled on November 20, 2024, during the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.[8] [9]The platform provides a mix of nostalgic content from Doordarshan's archives, such as Ramayan and Mahabharat, alongside contemporary shows, live events, and interactive features like free-to-play gaming and online shopping. Waves is available in 12+ languages, including Hindi, English, Bengali, Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu, ensuring accessibility to a wide audience.[10][11]
