West Side Story (Arabic: قصة الحي الغربي transliterated as Quessat al-Ay al-Gharby) is an Egyptian film released on November 7, 1979. The film is directed by Adel Sadeq and is based on the American film and musical of the same name.[1]
Plot[edit]
Two gangs quarrel, one led by Ragab and the other by Tolba. Sami, a friend of Tolba's, meets Ragab's sister Amal, and they fall in love. However, Nawal, Ragab's fiancée, warns her to stay away.
Sami claims to be estranged from Tolba and thus asks Ragab for Amal's hand in marriage. However, Ragab rejects the proposal. A group of youths assaults Nawal, leading to a deadly battle between the gangs.
