What's All This New Piss? is the third studio EP from the American rock band Yawn Mower.
Content[edit]
The five-track EP was digitally self-released by Yawn Mower, on 11 March 2017.[1] What's All This New Piss? was engineered by Pat Noon at Eightsixteen Studios in Bayville, New Jersey, and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side in New Windsor, New York. Album photography is by Michael Burke, and layout is by Michael Loupos. The EP is conceptually about prodding the media, organized religion and "everyday punch in/punch out lifestyle," and the music described as "fuzzy, surfy, good time tunes."[2][3] In an interview with The Pop Break, Benson explains the name What's All This New Piss? originates from a night when the elevator in Chick's apartment was out of order, causing them to walk down five flights of stairs to walk his dog, Helicopter Jones. With Jones stopping to smell every step, Chick and Benson "were riffing on what must be going on in Jones' head, we thought hes probably thinking to himself, "What's all this new piss?""[2]
Reception[edit]
Bob Makin in Courier News says What's All This New Piss? is "even better than last year's fantabulous Get to the Boat."[4] A review by Mike Mehalick in Speak Into My Good Eye notes the song "Paddle Out" "kicks out from the jump with Chick winding a heavy, angular guitar line leading to a build wherein he harmonizes with Swenson and lets the tension explode like a tube of Mentos dropped into a bottle of soda;" adding "throw in some horns and hand claps and you've got yourself an inventive slice of fuzz-pop nirvana."[5]
