Who Are Ya is a free daily football browser game.[1] that is playable on PC, Mac, phone, tablet or even a games console[2]. It was inspired by the popular worldwide guessing game, Wordle[3]. Players have eight attempts to guess the mystery footballer, with feedback given after each guess[4].
Due to its release shortly after Wordle became a viral phenomenon[5] and at a similar time to many other Wordle clones, the Forbes website described Who Are Ya as "May Be The Best Yet".[6]
Gameplay[edit]
Every day, a mystery footballer is chosen, out of about 30,000 registered players[7], which users aim to guess in eight tries[8]. It can be played with or without the assistance of a blurred photograph of the footballer[9]. If the game is played with a photo, the image will become slightly less blurred after each guess[10].
After a guess has been made, the user will be given clues as to how close their last guess was to the mystery player in a number of categories, such as the player's nationality, age and current club[11]. Each category is displayed in a ball which will highlight green if that category matches the mystery footballer's[12]. By being strategic about guesses, the user should be able to narrow down the mystery player's categories in order to make a more informed guess in the next turn.
The game will refresh every day and people from around the world will attempt to guess the same player.[13]
Other Themes[edit]
Following the success of the football themed Who Are Ya, the developer's went on to create other themes, such as a celebrity version[14]. In this celebrity spin-off, the famous mystery celebrity can come from any walk of life, such as an actor, sportsperson or singer, amongst others[15]
