Comunio is a browser-based massively multiplayer online football management game developed in Germany and started in 2000. The users can make virtual leagues, whose scores are based on the actual results of various competitions. The idea originated in Germany in the 2000/2001 season, initially based on the German Football League. Currently it offers different game versions based on different national and international championships in football and other sports such as Formula 1 or winter sports. Its creators estimated the number of users at 800,000 players.[1]
The game is free to play, though there is an optional premium user (Plus Player or Pro Player) service that provides additional features. As with any manager game, the player must assign positions to the players and choose among some basic tactical and strategic options.
The Spanish version of Comunio is the most famous fantasy football game in Spain with 1,000,000 active users. Even international players such as Jose Antonio Reyes, Gerard Pique and Cesc Fabregas have spoken publicly about their Comunio fantasy teams and even Xabi Alonso thanked a rival after a game for his good scores.[2]
Gameplay[edit]
The basic idea of Comunio is to manage a football team wisely, whether it be in buying and selling players, setting the team's lineup. Every user in Comunio has a team of his/her own. The user has wide control over their team, and gameplay is mainly limited by economic and tactical restrictions.
