The twenty-first season of the American version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire will be the fourth season on ABC following 17 seasons in syndication. The season will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and is expected to comprise eight episodes featuring celebrity contestants. It premiered on April 8, 2020, and is also simulcast in Canada on CTV
Format[edit]
This season features the same format as previous seasons on ABC, but with two new lifelines: Ask the Expert and Ask the Host. Contestants are allowed to bring someone to the show to help them answer questions as their "Expert" and help them with the first ten questions. After the tenth question, contestants may trade in one of their other lifelines if they want to be able to use their expert on any of the last five questions. Contestants are also allowed to ask host Jimmy Kimmel for help on a question as well. The 50:50 and Phone a Friend lifelines return.[1][2]

Special[edit]
On April 6, 2020, ABC aired a one-hour special from ABC News entitled Secrets & Surprises celebrating the series' 20th anniversary. It included interviews from former hosts Regis Philbin and Meredith Vieira as well as original executive producer Michael Davies. Season 21 host Jimmy Kimmel also talked about the upcoming season.[14]
Millionaire Live[edit]
Ahead of the season premiere, Sony Pictures Television Games released an app entitled Millionaire Live that lets viewers compete to earn the same amount of money as the celebrity on that night's episode. The game begins immediately after the show airs on the East Coast. Each game is hosted by Kay Adams from NFL Network's Good Morning Football.[15]
