Guy David Freeman (born 15 March 1965)[1] is a former BBC light entertainment television producer, in the broadcasting genre of live-produced events.
He was responsible for the procedure of choosing the UK entry at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1997, being the subsequent main executive producer of the Eurovision Song Contest 1998 in Birmingham.
Early life[edit]
He went to a voluntary-aided boys' grammar school in Surrey , which chose to become independent in 1977.
Career[edit]
He joined the BBC in 1983 as a camera operator. From 1989 to 1998 he produced Saturday evening light entertainment series on BBC One.
He was Head of Delegation for the UK before the Eurovision Song Contest 1996 in Oslo, and for the Eurovision Song Contest 1997, which the UK won in Dublin. He produced the Eurovision Song Contest 1998 held in the UK in Birmingham on 9 May 1998.
He produced the first series of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire in 1998, which won the BAFTA Award for Best Entertainment Programme in May 1999.
He was Executive Editor of BBC Music Live in 2000. He produced the Brit Awards from 2001 to 2004.
He was Controller of Music & Events at ITV from 2006 to 2009.
He left ITV at end of 2012 to join BBC Events, later becoming Editor of Special Events until March 2018, where he was responsible for events such as Children in Need, the BBC Music Awards and choosing the British entry for the Eurovision Song Contest (Head of Delegation) from 2014 to 2018. Recent acts have been picked through the BBC Music Introducing scheme.
Personal life[edit]
He married Emma Cornish, a BBC television producer, and lives in rural Hertfordshire, and they have two sons (born 1999 and 2001).[2]
