Whoopie Cat is a Australian heavy blues/psychedelic soul band founded in 2014.
History[edit]
Formation (2014)[edit]
Before the formation of Whoopie Cat, members Dan Smoo, Jesse Juzwin, Jaksen Juzwin & Josh Brandon began jamming punk rock music after school in a bungalo at the Juzwin Residence located in the Yarra Valley, Victoria, Australia under the name Bad Repeat. In 2013, Bad Repeat had broken up and all of the members stopped playing together until 2014, where Dan Smoo and Jesse Juzwin started playing together in the new bluesy style under the new band name Whoopie Cat. In the coming months the full band had joined again with an additional member Jo Eileen on Keys/Backup Vox. The name Whoopie Cat was chosen when Dan Smoo and Jesse Juzwin were driving around the Melbourne suburbs listening to Led Zeppelin and misheard a lyric from Misty Mountain Hop.
Debut Self-Titled EP Whoopie Cat (2016)[edit]
Their debut EP, Whoopie Cat (2016), was recorded in a friends lounge-room/bedroom/home studio, which gives the album such a raw sound. The band spent about a month recording each track separately and was recorded and mixed by friends Dave Aulhaus and Sam Leckie. <ref>[1] The album was then mastered by Melbournes' Tony 'Jackthebear' Mantz. After the EP had been re-uploaded through popular niche YouTube channel 'Stoned Meadow of Doom 2', the band began to see a rise in followers worldwide.
New Album and Signing to Kozmik Artifactz (2017-Present)[edit]
In December 2017, the band had announced that they will be releasing a follow up full-length record to their 2016 E.P. titled Illusion of Choice, using online fundraising website Kickstarter.
On December 22nd, Whoopie Cat had re-released their EP onto Vinyl through German record label Kozmik Artifakz. 300 limited run, purple/black 180gm High Quality vinyls were released.
