William Edwin Hoyt
William Edwin Hoyt (July 3, 1845 – April 2, 1916) was an American civil engineer.[1][2]
Life and career
Hoyt graduated with a B.S. in civil engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1868.[1] He was part of the university's first graduating class.[3]
Hoyt served as chief engineer of the Buffalo, Rochester and Pittsburgh Railway Company.[2] He taught civil engineering and stereotomy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1870 to 1877.[1] From 1892 to 1897, he served as health commissioner of Rochester, New York.[2]
Hoyt is a character in the novel The Technologists by Matthew Pearl.[3]
