The William Street Bird, also known in Perth as; 'the bird' is a music venue located in the suburb of Northbridge in Perth, Western Australia.[1]

The venue is known for its contribution to Perth's live music scene, through the hosting of early-career and local musicians.[2] It opened in 2010.[3]

Noteworthy artists are known to have performed at the venue, including Flume, Stella Donnelly, Spacey Jane, Tame Impala, and Methyl Ethel.[4][5][6]

The Bird is known for its utility as a launch-pad for emerging bands in Perth to grow their careers. It has fostered the development of many notable musicians and DJs.[citation needed]

The venue frequently hosts events that promote the engagement of local music enthusiasts, such as open-mic nights, DJ events, and album launch parties.[citation needed]

It has hosted fundraising events for RTRFM, a community radio station based in the city.[7]

In 2013, the members of Tame Impala performed a 'secret gig' at the venue spread through word of mouth. The purpose of the gig was to fundraise for a friend that had a car stolen. The name of the band for the night was advertised publicly as 'Kevin Spacey'.[10][11][6]

Trivia[edit]

The venue was surprise visited by The Kid Laroi during his 2022 tour of Australia. While he spent some time at the venue meeting fans, he did not perform.[14][15]
