Wong Seng Weng is currently the Medical Director and Consultant Medical Oncologist of The Cancer Centre at the Paragon and Mount Elizabeth Novena Specialists’ Centres. He holds the appointments of executive director of the board of directors and chairman of the Medical Board of the Singapore Medical Group.

Studies[edit]

Weng obtained his basic medical degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS).[citation needed] He completed his post-graduate training in Internal Medicine and obtained his Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom (MRCP UK). Thereafter, he achieved Specialist Accreditation with the Ministry of Health Singapore and was admitted as Fellow of the Academy of Medicine of Singapore (FAMS) and College of Physicians of Singapore.

Weng is currently[when?] a visiting consultant medical oncologist at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Mount Alvernia Hospital and Raffles Hospital.[citation needed]

In the area of research, he holds the appointment of Adjunct Clinician Scientist of the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (IBN) in the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR).

Weng is part of the editorial advisory board of the oncology newspaper MIMS Oncology.

Weng is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) as well as the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and Singapore Society of Oncology. He has lectured at international cancer conferences in Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar, China, India, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Indonesia.[citation needed]

In 2013, Weng published a bilingual (English/Chinese) education book for the general readership entitled Cancel Cancer.

Career[edit]

Weng specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of adult cancers with special interest in breast cancers, lung cancers and gastrointestinal cancers.[2]

After his studies, Weng practised at the National University Hospital and was appointed clinical tutor in oncology at National University of Singapore. Weng was involved as an investigator in over twenty clinical trials exploring new methods of cancer treatment. He previously held the posts of Consultant Medical Oncologist and Senior Partner in Raffles Hospital in charge of all oncology services at Raffles Hospital.[2]

Weng's clinical practice is at The Cancer Centre, a Singapore Medical Group Clinic located at Paragon, Mount Elizabeth Novena Specialist Centre and Gleneagles Hospital.[1]

Apart from his practice at The Cancer Centre, Dr. Wong Seng Weng is currently also a visiting consultant at the National University Hospital where he is a tutor for medical oncologists-in-training. He is a visiting consultant at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Gleneagles Hospital, Mount Alvernia Hospital and Raffles Hospital. In the area of research, he holds the appointment of Adjunct Clinician Scientist of the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (IBN) in the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR).[2] He regularly writes columns for local newspapers and appears on television programs to educate the public about cancer.[3]

To help cancer patients with their nutritional issues, Weng worked with Singaporean celebrity chef Eric Teo on a book titled Cancer Cancel: Live Right & Eat Well which was released December 2013. The book tackles cancer myths and features dishes both for the general public and cancer patients.[5]

Personal life[edit]

Weng is married to another physician and has one daughter.[1][6] He speaks Mandarin and English.[6]
