Xellia ApS is a Danish multinational pharmaceutical and life sciences company headquartered in Copenhagen.[9][10] Xellia specializes in the production of anti-infective agents. The company is a subsidiary of Novo Nordisk.[11][12]
History
Xellia is an outgrowth of Apothekernes Laboratorium, which was founded in Norway in 1903.[13][14] Apothekernes Laboratorium began production of Bacitracin in 1954 in Oslo.[13] In 1975 Apothekernes Laboratory established A.L. Laboratories Inc. in the United States. A.L. Laboratories grew to be the largest producer of Bacitracin in the United States, and was listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1989.[13]
In 1994, A.L. Laboratories, Dumex, and Apothekernes Laboratorium merged to form Alpharma.[13]
Alpharma was acquired by 3i in 2008 and rebranded as Xellia.[13]
Xellia was then acquired by Novo Holdings A/S in 2013.[15]
Products
Xellia's focus is on anti-infectives, including antibiotics, antivirals, and antifungals.
Their longest standing offering, Bacitracin, is used both in pharmaceutical and veterinary applications.[13]
