Yangon Thu Michelle (Burmese: ရန်ကုန်သူမီရှဲ; born on 4 August 1993), real name Michelle is a Burmese lifestyle blogger, fashion model and a women's self-defence trainer.[1][2] She is also the co-founder and lead trainer of Myanmar Women's Self Defence Center (MWSDC) in Yangon, Myanmar.[3] Yangon Thu Michelle won the 2018 "Myanmar Influencer Award" for lifestyle.
Early life and education[edit]
She was born on 4 August 1993 in Yangon, Myanmar. She graduated with B.A (English) and also earned a Diploma in English from the University of Foreign Languages, Yangon in 2013.[4][5]
Career[edit]
Michelle competed in the Miss Universe Myanmar 2013 pageant, and finished in the top 20.[5] She received the title Miss Environment 2013.[6] She co-founded the Myanmar Women's Self Defence Center (MWSDC) with three other female acquaintances to enable women to protect themselves from sexual harassment.[7][8][9][10][11] Her self defence class is increasingly popular within LGBT organisations, NGOs and among women.[2]
As a lifestyle blogger, Yangon Thu Michelle[edit]
She began uploading videos for her Yangon Thu Michelle programs to her social media in February 2018, and also had them broadcast on the Mizzima TV broadcast channel and iFlix.[2] Her program covers specific topics such as historical sites and prominent landmarks, the day-to-day lifestyle of Myanmar women, and women empowerment videos.[1][2]
2018 Myanmar Influencer Award Winner[edit]
Her work won her the 2018 Myanmar Influencer Award in the Lifestyle category.[12]
