Yani Forner (1960–1993) was a Spanish actress and vedette. In 1987, she became the first trans woman to star in a Spanish film.

Life and career

Yani Forner was born in Malaga, Spain in 1960.[1] She began performing as a vedette at the popular cabaret Barcelona de Noche in the 1980s, performing with artists such as Pierrot, Marvin Salas and Bibiana Fernández.[2] She also worked in several venues in Malaga and Madrid.[1]

In 1987, she starred in the film Adela, by Carlos Balagué. In the film she plays Adela, a trans prostitute who becomes the lover of a police officer (played by Fernando Guillén), with whom she plans to get hold of a drug stash.[1][3] For the film, Forner had to be dubbed, because no live sound was recorded.[1] She also participated in sequences of the films La tercera luna (1984) and La rubia del bar (1986) by Ventura Pons.[1]

She died at the age of 32 in 1993 in Barcelona, Spain, from complications due to AIDS.[1]

Tributes

She was among the people honored in the 2021 artistic exhibition entitled Alta tecnología travestí ¡Que lo trans sea ley! (High-tech transvestite, let trans be law! ) by Rubén Antón.[4]

A year later, in 2022, she was the protagonist of photographic exposition entitled YANI FORNER.

The brilliant endures, which remained on display from April 9 to May 26 at Cincómonos Espai d'Art, in Barcelona.[5]
