Yisha Zhou Siu 周壹莎 (Born 1987 in Dali City 大理市, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture 大理白族自治州 in northwestern Yunnan, China.) is a Boston-based chef [1] and restaurant operator.[2]

Education[edit]

Upon arriving in the US to pursue a higher education, Siu studied at Regis College in Weston, MA for her freshman year. According to Siu, "...this was the period that made me realize how severely homesick I have become, due to absence of my hometown food..."[2]

Career[edit]

Her first job in the states was hired as hostess at a fine dining Japanese restaurant in Brookline, MA.

In Siu early days, majority of Chinese restaurants refused to acknowledge her less common Yunnan Cuisine, due to her "cooking style not being universal enough." Siu realized in order to cook the style of food she wants, ethnic Yunnan food, opening up her own restaurant was the only way. [3]

Siu’s cooking skill set was highly influenced by her mother since childhood in Dali City. Siu’s mother will introduce her to all kinds of ethnic food based in her hometown.
