Anthony Sears (born January 29, 1981), better known by his stage name Young Sears, is an American record producer, rapper, songwriter.[1]
Early life
Anthony Sears was born on January 29, 1981 and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. Always a fan of music, he started rapping as a hobby in high school over mainstream instrumentals. It wasn’t until he couldn’t find any original production that he would start making his own beats. As word spread, he soon began making beats for other local artists.
As fate would have it, Sears tapped into the rising popularity of Southern Hip Hop at just the right time. He would get his first ‘break’ after running into Houston, Texas freestyle rapper, Lil’ Flip at a local record store. Together, they would create an epic underground success story with the release of Lil’ Flip’s first major-label studio album, the Undaground Legend. The album would debut at #12 on the Billboard 200 and was certified Platinum by the RIAA.[2]
Career
2001-Present: From Underground to Mainstream
Young Sears began his producing career in Louisville, Kentucky for industry unknowns. In the early-2000s, he produced for underground hip hop artists such as Lil' Flip[3] [4][5][6] [7] [8] and Mike Jones[9]. In 2002, he made his mainstream breakthrough by producing 6 songs on Lil' Flip's first album Undaground Legend[10] [11] and 2 songs off Nelly's Da Derrty Versions: The Reinvention. Tip Drill is the name of a 2003 remix of the song E.I.[12]. It appeared as the fourth track on his 2003 remix album Da Derrty Versions: The Reinvention, including both the Air Force Ones Remix[13] and the controversial remix of his 4th single EI, Tip Drill with David Banner. The song's music video, made for the version featuring the St. Lunatics, became controversial for its perceived blatant display of women as sexual objects.[14] He would go on to produce another Lil' Flip song that was featured on the 2 Fast 2 Furious Soundtrack, Rollin on 20s's [15](featuring Yung Redd & Lil Ron). It was originally released on May 27, 2003, on Disturbing tha Peace and Def Jam South/IDJMG. By 2003, the album was certified as Gold by the RIAA. In 2004, he produced David Banner's Crank It Up (featuring Static Major)[16]. Sears reached commercial success again with yet another Houston-based rapper, Mike Jones, producing 2 tracks off Jones' debut album, Who Is Mike Jones?: Turnin Lane[17] [18] and Laws Patrollin[19] [20]. The album debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200 with 181,000 copies sold in its first week and was certified Platinum by the RIAA within 2 months of its release. In 2008, Sears produced the title track "Still da Baddest" off American rapper, Trina's fourth studio album[21]. The album debuted at #6 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the US R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Aside from the aforementioned artists, Sears production credits from the 2000s include work with Gorilla Zoe [22], G-Unit[23] [24], Young Dro[25][26], B.A.S.K.O.[27], Chop Shop Cartel[28], Olivia [29], JoJo [30], Killer Mike[31], Yung Joc[32].
