Yuriy Volodymyrovich Tymoshenko (Ukrainian: Юрій Володимирович Тимошенко; born 3 April 1961), is a Russian-born Ukrainian politician and guardsman who served as People's Deputy of Ukraine of the Verkhovna Rada the 8th convocation from 2014 to 2019. He was also a candidate for the presidency of Ukraine in the 2019 elections.
Early life and education[edit]
Tymoshenko was born on 3 April 1961 in the village of Divnoye, Stavropol Krai.
In 1979, he graduated from the Ivano-Frankivsk Cooperative Vocational Technical School, specialty: sales consultant.
Career[edit]
From August 1982 to January 1983, he was part of the Kolomyia Department of Public Catering as a freight forwarder of the trade department.
From February 1983 to May 1985, he was part of the Main Department of Trade of the Ministry of Defense of the Soviet Union, Voentorg No. 174 - forwarder.
From June 1985 to October 1985, he worked at the collective farm named after XXII Congress of the CPSU. From November 1985 to November 1986, he temporarily did not work. From December 1986 to April 1988, he worked at "Zhovten" collective farm, as a worker in the ancillary industries workshop in the Borshchiv district, in Ternopil Oblast. From April 1988 to December 1989, he worked at "Lenin's Way" collective farm, and was a high-rise painter. Between December 1989 to 1993, he worked at a "Builder" cooperative, and was a high-rise painter.
He took an active part in all historical events of the national liberation struggle in Prykarpattiain June 1989, as part of the "Ukrainian Helsinki Union", co-founder of the "Memorial" society in 1989 in Kolomyia, and a participant in all its excavations, a member of the Kolomyia station of the Brotherhood of Soldiers of the OUN -UPA, member of GFzOGP Kolomiysk MRO "People's self-defense of Kolomiyshchyna".
From 2006 to 2013, with the LLC "Ukrainian Publishing Union", he worked on public grounds as a driver-forwarder.
Since May 2014, he has been a guardsman of the First Battalion of the operational assignment named after General Kulchytskyi of the National Guard.
Political activity[edit]
On 27 November 2014, Tymoshenko became a member of the Verkovnka Rada. He had been a member of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada on Prevention and Counteraction of Corruption. On 26 May 2016, Tymoshenko said that he would support all the bills authored by Nadezhda Savchenko, but less than a year later, on 18 May 2017, he voted against the “Savchenko law.”[2]
On 21 March 2017, Tymoshenko said that he would be against the removal of Yehor Soboliev from his post, and already in December he signed the procedure for recalling Sobolev from the post of chairman of the parliamentary anti-corruption committee.[3]
On 9 February 2018, Tymoshenko spoke out in support of those accused of murdering Oles Buzina and considers them heroes, and said to Buzina's mother that she should be ashamed of her son.
On 1 November, Russian sanctions were introduced against 322 citizens of Ukraine, including Tymoshenko.[4]
In January 2019, after announcing his intention to run for president, he was expelled from the People's Front.[5]
On 6 March 2019, law enforcement agencies arrested two men "red handed" who offered the presidential candidate Tymoshenko 5 million hryvnias in exchange for his withdrawal from the election.[6] According to Yuriy Lutsenko, Valeriy Dubil was the customer of the bribe.[7]
According to the results of the first round of the 2019 presidential elections, he won 0.62% of the vote.
Personal life[edit]
He is married to Zoryana Ivanivna Tymoshenko, and has two sons, Nestor and Valeriy, and two daughters, Mariana and Lyubava.
