Yves Vatelot, born in France is a French entrepreneur, investor and business executive in technology, consumer electronics and wine industries.
Business career[edit]
Early career[edit]
Yves Vatelot started his career in the international trade business in La Réunion an island in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar before participating as a broker in the real estate developments of French shopping mall as Parly 2. Yves Vatelot then partnered with Max Théret, co-founder of French retail chain selling Fnac, to exploit renewable energy sources such as hydroelectricity in France.
In the consumer electronics industry[edit]
Yves Vatelot co-invented the epilator for which he registered patents.[1] He founded the company Silk-épil in 1980 which produced the first epilators then sold the company to its largest distributor The Gillette Company in 1990.
Bordeaux vineyards[edit]
In 1990 Yves Vatelot bought a vineyard in Bordeaux. With his wife Stéphanie he bought the Château Reignac,[2] a 16th-century property in l'Entre-deux-Mers. With the technical director of the vineyard Nicolas Lesaint and advisers Yves Vatelot elaborated several patented methods related to the vinification in oak barrels[3][4]
Private Equity[edit]
In 2001, with the American international investment firm Colony Capital, Yves Vatelot bought Château Lascombes[5], a Margaux appellation classified as one of fifteen Seconds Crus (Second Growths) in the original Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. Heavy investments were made to modernize Chateau Lascombes, which had been considered an under performer in relation to its classification, including complete renovations to the entire estate, a major replanting of the vineyards as well as the construction of a completely new winemaking facility that included a four level, gravity fed vat room and new barrel aging cellars. With the help of Michel Rolland and Dr. Alain Raynaud the vineyard regained its place among the best Bordeaux wine producers[citation needed] In 2011 Château Lascombes was sold it to the French insurance group MACSF an insurance company is the largest insurer of health professionals like doctors, nurses and others working in France.[6][7]
In 2004 Yves Vatelot and Colony Capital acquired French Steakhouse chain Buffalo Grill, a retail chain of 300 restaurants. After 15 months they proceed to the first major sale and leaseback operation in France by selling the real-estate to French real estate investment trust (REIT) Klépierre. In 2008 Buffalo Grill was acquired to ABN AMRO Private Equity.
PMU Partenaire[edit]
In 2016, PMU the European largest largest pool betting company granted Yves Vatelot the development of PMU's commingling pool on the African continent through the company PMU Partenaire.
