Zāna Zora Rifai (born 27 September 1994), also known by her stage name Zāna, is an American singer-songwriter whose soulful and sophisticated sound rooted in finespun melodies and intricate rhythms is uniquely classified as gypsy pop. Her Lebanese, Serbian and Croatian family lineage plays an integral part in her music. In addition to singing, she plays guitar, traditional drum kit, and a variety of Arabic percussion including: darbuka, riq, and sājāt.
Her latest works include the singles “Call Ya” and “Wish He’d Stayed” and her self-released debut EP The Beauty of Zora..[1]
Zāna is currently in the studio working on new music and performs locally in New York City.
Career[edit]
Zana’s journey in music began at an early age. When she turned 8 years old, she started to learn drums and by 15 she began playing guitar. Within a year she started writing her own songs, and soon landed her demos in the hands of Grammy Award-winning producers Tim Mitchell (Bob Seger, Shakira) and George Noriega (Ricky Martin, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez). Mitchell and Noriega invited Zāna out to Miami to work on a batch of songs, which yielded her debut single “Into My Bed” in 2014.[2]
In 2015, Zāna released the official video for "Deeper" featuring Chinese-Filipino actor Xian Lim.[3]
She began performing live at local fairs and festivals throughout out her teenage years, and recently graduated from the world-renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.
She currently lives and performs in New York City.
In February of 2018, she premiered her single “Call Ya” with Just Jared Jr. The official video for “Call Ya” now has over 1.4 million views on YouTube.[4] She released her next single “Wish He’d Stayed” on June 28, 2018 on OnesToWatch.com. [5]
On July 27, 2018 Zana self-released her debut EP The Beauty of Zora [6] featuring “Wish He’d Stayed.”
