Ezequiel Gurovich (born October 19, 1989), known professionally as Zepet, is an Argentine singer-songwriter from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Originally known for his online projects like "PILO" and "JodasArgentasTV", he has more recently developed a following for his music. Zepet self-released his first two EPs, ZEPET (2017) and Other Versions of Me (2018). In 2019, he signed with The Orchard, and began releasing singles with them in 2020, first "Call Me When You Break Up" and more recently, "Me and My Reflection".

Biography[edit]

Early career (2009–2013)[edit]

After several musical projects with Stone Giant guitarist Sebastian Fernandez in his high school days, Zepet moves to the United States and continues to explore his musical talents while attending School of Visual Arts and Boston University. Here he spends most of his nights jamming with musicians of nearby school Berklee College of Music and begins composing his own original work. During this time he works as a television producer in Susana Giménez and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.[4]

When his studies conclude, he moves back to Buenos Aires, where he works on comedy online projects like "Asi No Me Vas A Coger, Pelotudo", and his videos on Vine.[5]

As a side-project, he uploads comedic songs to his YouTube channel, which are picked up by TV show Periodismo para todos hosted by Jorge Lanata. Here Zepet's videos reach hundreds of thousands of views in days, specially his more politically charged songs like "La Chica K" and "¿Dónde está Jaime?"[6][7][8][9]

YouTube Stardom (2014–present)[edit]

Zepet decides to give birth to a new YouTube channel, a hidden-camera prank channel called "JodasArgentasTV" a.ka. as "JATV" along other Vine stars. The group also tours with an improv comedy show.[10][11] Zepet leaves "JATV" to embark on new projects in early 2017.

During the same time, Zepet partners with cinematographer Nicolas Dalli and begin a new YouTube project named "PILO". Here, he features the most important Argentine YouTubers and influencers in similar fashion to channels like React and BuzzFeed, and the channel rapidly grows, reaching the millionth subscriber mark in 2020.[12][13][14]

Music career (2017–present)[edit]

In 2017 Zepet returns to his musical roots and gives a fresh start to a new project with a completely different genre, even shifting to writing his lyrics in English. Here he works with his friend, guitarist and producer Sebastian Fernandez from band Stone Giant (who's members play all backing instruments), and Grammy Award winneing engineer, Fernando Lodeiro. He records his self-titled EP "Zepet" in Power Station and releases it the same year after being mixed in Buenos Aires, Argentina and mastered in the legendary Abbey Road Studios.[15] The EP includes pop-rock ballads like "This Is Not a Love Song" and "So Long", and a more acoustic-rock feel than his later work. The EP is accompanied with 3 different music videos.

The following year, he repeats the same formula to record his second EP "Other Versions of Me", a concept EP in which a break-up is told throughout different perspectives. This time, the EP is mastered by Bryan Lucey, known for working with artists like Green Day, Arctic Monkeys, and many more. He first releases the single "Do I Make You Nervous?" which goes on to reach almost a million streams in Spotify. Zepet then releases the rest of the EP along with the music video for the song "On a Better Day", a song he co-wrote with Sebastian Fernandez during the days the Stone Giant member was in Buenos Aires for their show in the local version of the Lollapalooza festival.[16]

In 2019 Zepet is offered to sign with The Orchard, a subsidiary of Sony Music, and beginning in 2020 releases two singles with them: "Call Me When You Break Up" and "Me and My Reflection", both indie-rock songs that are released with their accompanying music videos.[17]
