Maria José Barbosa e Silva is a Brazilian actress. She has appeared in several Brazilian films and telenovela, starring as Maria in the film pt:Bendito Fruto (2002), as Latoya in the telenovela A Lua Me Disse (2005), and as Jurema in the Emmy winner telenovela Lado a Lado (2012).

Early life[edit]

Maria José Barbosa e Silva was born in Osasco, São Paulo, on March 19, 1963. Daughter of a housewife and a locksmith, she convinced her mother that she could be an actress by inventing theatrical scenes. Barbosa left his family home at the age of seventeen.[1]

Studied at the School of Dramatic Art at the University of São Paulo (USP). Before starting an acting career professionally, I was a secretary, telemarking operator and cafeteria attendant. Later, he stated that, at the time, he slept little and earned poorly, but he was always happy.

Career[edit]

Her first contacts with artistic life took place when she participated in Circo Grafitti, a São Paulo group founded by her alongside other actors, such as Rosi Campos, Gerson de Abreu, Helen Helene and Pedro Paulo Bogossian. Barbosa has a vast career in theater performances.

His debut in professional theater was in 1986, when he was part of the cast of the works Aurora da Minha Vida and also Seis Personagens à Procura de um Autor, by Luigi Pirandello, directed by Claudio Lucchesi. Since then, Barbosa has never stopped participating in shows, having engaged in several works in successful plays such as Each one in its own way, A Disputa and A Mulher Invisível.[2]

While studying at USP's School of Dramatic Art, he participated in the successful feature film Vera, starring the award-winning actress Ana Beatriz Nogueira in 1986. It was Zezeh's first contact with cameras, in a small role. Four years later, he made his first appearance in teledramaturgy, in the telenovela Brasileiras e Brasileiros, on SBT, where he gave life to Edilaine.
