Zhang Hao (Chinese: 章昊; Korean: 장하오; born July 25, 2000) is a Chinese singer based in South Korea and signed under Yuehua Entertainment. He became the first-place winner of the reality competition series Boys Planet and debuted as a member of the show's resulting boy group Zerobaseone in July 2023.[1] He has been noted as the first foreigner to win first place in a South Korean idol survival show of this type.[1][2]

Early life

Zhang was born on July 25, 2000, and is from Fujian, China.[3] In January 2018, he participated in the national college entrance exam for art students and placed first in his home province of Fujian.[4] He then enrolled in Fujian Normal University and majored in music education.[5] While in college, he obtained his teaching certificate to teach music to secondary school students.[6][7][8] His musical talents include singing and playing musical instruments such as the violin, cello, viola and piano.[8][9]

Career

2022–present: Boys Planet and Zerobaseone

On December 29, 2022, Zhang was unveiled as a contestant on Mnet's reality competition show Boys Planet[10][11] and the center of G-Group in the performance of the Boys Planet theme song "Here I Am" (Korean: 난 빛나), which was broadcast on Mnet's M Countdown.[12][13][14] The show aired from February 2 to April 20, 2023.[15] Zhang was one of eight trainees representing Yuehua Entertainment. For his star evaluation, he performed NCT 127's "Kick It" alongside fellow trainees Ricky, Ollie, and Brian.[16]

Zhang consistently ranked in the Top 9 for all three elimination rounds of the show. He received all-stars during all three rounds of star evaluations as well as the musical test. In addition, he won first place in every evaluation team of Boys Planet that he participated in, allowing him to obtain all possible bonus points on the show. On April 20, 2023, he placed 1st with a total of 1,998,154 points in the final episode of Boys Planet, allowing him to debut as a member of the South Korean group, Zerobaseone.[1][17][18] The group officially debuted with the EP Youth In the Shade on July 10, 2023, under WakeOne Entertainment.[19][20][21] During the group's debut showcase on July 10, 2023, Zhang also formally introduced himself as "Zerobaseone's center".[22]

The EP Youth In the Shade includes Zhang's first solo song "Always", which is the sixth song on the track list and expresses his gratitude towards fans.[23][24][23]
