Biography[edit]

Personal life[edit]

Known mainly as Ángelo, he was born and raised in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. When he was eight-years old, he moved to the City of Buenos Aires, where he attended to Colegio Argentino Modelo, a well-known college located at Recoleta neighborhood.[2] He is the second son of four siblings. His parents Antonio and Maria Pia[3][4] were immigrants who had established in Argentina after leaving Italy.[5][6]

In 1986, Ángelo Calcaterra became an Architect graduated from the University of Belgrano (UB).[5]

0n 29 August 1986, he married Maria Boneo, a sculptor artist born in a Yugoslavian family[6]. They had two daughters and a son and divorced in 2010.[7][5]

Career[edit]

Ángelo started his career in Architecture at his father’s company, Calcaterra S.A,[8] where he first worked as construction manager and then, between 1983 and 1990, as Operational Manager. In 1990 he was promoted to General Manager until the year 2000.[9]

Between 1993 and 1995, he also was the executive director of Alimentos Modernos S.A a factory of frozen French fries.[10][11]

Calcaterra occupied relevant positions within the Macri Group, one of the biggest holdings in Argentina, most of them at the same time.[9] The group was owned by Franco Macri, father of Argentina’s former President Mauricio Macri. Ángelo is his cousin.[12][13]

In 2001 he became executive director of Creaurban S.A, a real estate company that built iconic buildings in the Puerto Madero neighborhood of Buenos Aires, such as the Mulieris Towers,[14] Torres del Yacht[15] and the Art María building.[16] He held that position until 2007.[9]

Among other positions he has occupied at different companies, between 2001 and 2004 he was President of of Minera Geometales S.A,[17] a mining company for the exploration and exploitation of copper in the province of Mendoza and director of Puentes del Litoral S.A, the company that had the administration of the Rosario-Victoria bridge in the province of Santa Fe. Until 2006, he was director of the engineering company Litsa S.A. too.[9]

For more than 10 years he was the CEO of International Engineering and Construction S.A (I.E.C.S.A),[18] which was dedicated to design, construction, industrial plant maintenance, telecommunications projects, highway construction, and other projects requiring both basic and integrated engineering. In the 1990s, that company was one of the key players of Argentina’s privatization process since it acquired many concessions to build and manage roads, highways and bridges.[19][20]

In 2007, Calcaterra acquired IECSA and Creaurban[21] and founded ODS Group with an Italian company called Ghella. ODS Group carried out its construction and real estate activities in Argentina, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Paraguay and Uruguay.[1] He was the General Manager until 2017 when he transferred the company to Pampa Energía, another Argentinean holding owned by the businessmen Marcelo and Damian Mindlin.[22][23][8]
