081, is a fictional character in Darling in the Franxx, a Japanese science fiction romance and action anime television series produced by CloverWorks and Trigger.[8] He was Zero Two's former parasite. He sustained great injury after riding with her and died as a result.
081 was a notably tall and had a stocky build. He had blond-grey hair and bloodshot eyes. He wore a similar outfit to Zero Two, except with a navy blue coat instead of red. He had his left arm in a cast and a breathing mask. He also had a bandage that covers his left eye and forehead.
081's unique uniform indicates that perhaps he, too, was part of a special forces unit, as Nana has twice explicitly stated that the Nines are, in her words, "a special forces unit." Furthermore, his navy blue coat has not yet made an appearance on any other parasite since.
Personality[edit]
Little is shown of 081's personality. He was willing to die as a parasite, sustaining great injury each time he rode with Zero Two. He was annoyed with her indifferent attitude. When he met Hiro, he warned him to be careful around her.
History[edit]
Episode 01: Alone and Lonesome 081 is introduced when he is asleep. Zero Two asks how she smells, but Dr. FRANXX tells her to let him rest, as he is drained from the previous battle.
After they land, he walks among Dr. FRANXX, Nana, Zero Two, and the other staff. After Zero Two runs off, he becomes angry.
Just as Hiro is about to take Zero Two's hand, he and the other staff interrupt, with 081 saying that they would have been looking for her. He asks why she keeps running off alone. She says that she has nothing to do anyway until the following day. He plops her hat on her head and says that he's the one who suffers for it. He apologizes to Hiro about her. Hiro asks what he meant by "partner," but he suggests that he stays far away from her, as she is not the kind of pistil just anyone can handle. They walk off together.
When the plantation is suddenly attacked by a Klaxosaur, Zero Two and 081 begin piloting Strelizia. He dies before they can attack, causing Zero Two to enter stampede mode. When Strelizia crashes into the plantation, Zero Two coldly throws him out. Though Hiro tries to tend to him, Zero Two tells to him that he's already dead
