12d Solutions Pty Ltd, formerly 4d Solutions Pty Ltd[1], founded in Sydney in 1988, is one of Australia's oldest software development and software training companies. It provides software for the civil engineering, water engineering, surveying, construction and architectural industries.

History[edit]

Since 12d Solutions was founded in 1988, it has grown from an Australian-based software provider to an international software provider with distribution in 65 countries.[2]

Dr Lee Gregory and Alan Gray founded the company in 1988, on Sydney's Northern Beaches, with the aim of developing terrain modelling software in partnership with civil engineers and surveyors. In 1991, after three years of development, the first version of 4d Model (now 12d Model) was released in Australia.

In 2006, the company developed 12d Synergy as a source control platform for 12d Solutions developers.

In 2012 12d Synergy was released as a data management, collaboration and worksharing system for the architectural, engineering and construction industries.

In 2012, 12d Solutions also created the 12d International Innovation Awards to recognise innovative solutions in civil engineering, surveying and data management projects by 12d users around the world.

12d International Innovation Awards[edit]

The biannual 12d International Innovation Awards were conceived following the innovative approaches proposed for the $2.5 billion Christchurch Earthquake SCIRT repair projects.[3] Past winners include J. Wyndham Prince, The RCS Group, Cardno, Christchurch City Council and SMEC.[4]
