The 1989–90 season was the first season played by the reformed side since Newport County were wound-up[3] and expelled from the Football Conference midway through the 1988–89 season.

Due to the club being unable to secure the lease on Somerton Park the season was spent ground sharing at Moreton-in-Marsh in Gloucestershire, England.[1] They spent the season playing at London Road, earning their enduring nickname, The Exiles.[4]

Newport finished the season as cup winners and league champions of the Hellenic League Premier Division with promotion to the Southern League.

In July 2019 Newport County returned to London Road for a friendly match against Moreton Rangers[5] to mark the 30th anniversary of the groundshare.[2]
