The 2007 CSL season was the 10th season in Italia Shooters participation in the Canadian Soccer League. The club ended their CSL campaign in the third position in the International Division. In the postseason Italia faced an early departure after a defeat to Trois-Rivières Attak in the preliminary round. Meanwhile in the Open Canada Cup the Shooters made it into the semi-finals, but were eliminated by the Trois-Rivières Attak.

A strong start to the season saw Italia top of the division table, but after a series of poor results in the latter part of the season allowed the Serbian White Eagles, and Toronto Croatia to battle for the division title. Kadian Lecky was Vaughan's top goalscorer for the second consecutive time in the 2007 season and including the Open Canada Cup tournament scoring 11 goals. For the annual CSL All-Star match Italia had four player selections for the International Division squad.[1]

Summary[edit]

The Shooters entered the 2007 season as the defending champions with Tony De Thomasis continuing in his capacity as head coach. The roster assembled by Thomasis consisted of many returning veterans and the acquisition of players from several defunct CSL clubs with the addition of players with USL experience.[2] The club began the season with a undefeated streak of seven matches, and primarily battled with the Serbian White Eagles, and Toronto Croatia for supremacy in the International Division.[3] The club experienced a major increase in match attendance with Italia drawing third behind Serbian White Eagles and Trois-Rivières Attak.[4]

After a solid start to the season the Shooters failed to achieve the necessary results in clinching the division title. As a result finished third in the standings with a playoff berth, and managed to produce the best defensive record throughout the league.[5] In the postseason Italia failed to successfully defend their championship after a 3-0 defeat to Trois-Rivières Attak. In the Open Canada Cup tournament the Shooters produced a series of victories as they reached the semifinals to be eliminated by Trois-Rivières once more.
