On November 2, 2021, an Optimum Aviation Antonov An-26, registered as TR-NGT, crashed near the White Nile just after take-off from Juba International Airport, South Sudan.[1]

Airline[edit]

Optimum Aviation was founded in 1986 and performs Cargo and Charter flights and is headquartered in Juba, South Sudan.[2]

Flight[edit]

The flight was scheduled to carry 28 fuel barrels to Maban Airstrip.[1][3] After climbing from Runway 13 at 10:33 LT, the crew declared a Mayday emergency and after 5 minutes, the aircraft crashed near the White Nile. The plane exploded on impact likely due to a fuel ignition.[3] Rescue services arrived at the crash site and found no survivors. Per a witness, the runway had traces of fuel, consistent with a departing aircraft. However, the witness is not aware if it was of the accident flight.
