In February 2021, shares in ADVFN PLC rose after it posted a swing to profit for the first half of its current financial year, crediting the improvement to change in its strategy as a result of the pandemic as well as market volatility. [2]
In April 2021, ADVFN's share price practically doubled as bid rumours resurfaced. [3]
ADVFN announced on 5 July 2021 that it expects to report a swing to a pretax profit of at least 1.6 million pounds ($2.2 million) for the fiscal year thanks to higher revenue, and that it is now in a position to start paying dividends.[4][5]
ADVFN won the award for Most Innovative Crypto & Forex Information Provider 2021 at the Corporate Vision Technology Innovator Awards.[6]
History[edit]
The company was established in the last quarter of 1999 and originated as an investment community financial forum. [7][8][9][10]
Co-founded by Clem Chambers[11][12]and Michael Hodges, it was incubated by On-line plc (now Online Blockchain plc) – an incubator and developer of businesses in internet and information-based technologies. Online Blockchain plc currently has a 17.98% holding in ADVFN plc.[13] ADVFN floated on AIM in March 2000.
In 2006, ADVFN acquired InvestorsHub.com, a leading online investment community website in the North American market. Three years later it bought AllIPO, an online IPO trading platform as well as stock brokerages TSCTrade and Throgmorton Street Capital.
Data provision[edit]
Building from its financial forums (bulletin boards), the company expanded to offer stock prices, charts and analysis tools for all major world markets, indices, forex pairs, futures, options, ETFs and covered warrants.[14]
It launched its Follow Feed artificial intelligence stock alert tool in 2016.[15][16]
In the UK, ADVFN was instrumental in bringing data previously only available to institutional investors to the retail market. This includes real-time stock prices and Level 2 data.[17][18][19][20]
Awards programme[edit]
The company launched the ADVFN International Financial Awards in 2015. The awards recognise and celebrate the best of breed products and services from across the financial industry. Award winners include:
