The club was formed by former directors, management, players and volunteers of Southwick 1882 F.C., in July 2021 following a disagreement with club directors over subscription payments required from players. Southwick 1882 play in the division below. Both phoenix clubs state they ultimately aim to return to Old Barn Way. AFC Southwick currently groundshare at Whitehawk F.C..
AFC Southwick play in red and black striped shirts with black shorts and socks. The club's traditional rivals are near neighbours Shoreham and Mile Oak.
