Aaron Herzberg (born around 1969)[1] is a partner at CalCann Holdings, Inc., a California medical marijuana real estate company.
Education and personal life[edit]
Herzberg was educated at the University of California, San Diego, and attended law school at Hastings College of the Law in 1995.[2] He has said that he has Asperger's Syndrome and that he started uses cannabis to help with cope with Aspergers.[3]
Career[edit]
He practiced business and family law in Orange County[2][4][5] and around 2010, one of his clients was Rosanne Barr.[1] He said that he was earning around $1 million per year around 2012, when cannabis was legalized in Colorado and Washington, and he decided to sell his practice and enter the cannabis business, initially aiming to help dispensaries obtain licenses and to invest in cannabis businesses with his business partner at the time, Leslie Bocskor.[4]
In 2014 Herzberg attended a meeting with the mayor of Santa Ana in which he asked to be appointed to a task force to recommend changes to city ordinances about cannabis dispensaries, and Doug Lanphere, a local medical marijuana activist, said that the Hezberg and the mayor agreed that Herzberg would be appointed if he made political donations benefitting the mayor.[6] An investigation by Voice of OC published in June 2015 did find that Herzberg, directly or through his companies gave the mayor's PAC $15,000; Herzberg told the Voice of OC there was no quid pro quo and the mayor did not comment; the Santa Ana task force never formed.[6] In 2015 the Long Beach City Council formed a similar task force and Herzberg had a seat on it, and his political donations were investigated by a Long Beach newspaper.[7]
By 2015 he was a partner in a venture called CalCann Holdings with Chris Francey, which held land in Nevada and two licenses for cannabis dispensaries in Santa Ana;[7] by 2016 they held a third, in partnership with Barr.[1][5]
As of March 2017 he had a 4.7 out of 5 "Preeminent " peer rating and a 4.1 out of 5 client rating from Martindale-Hubbell.[2]
