Abdullahi Haske Bashir (born 13 December 1987) is a Nigerian entrepreneur, and philanthropist. He is the founder and Group Managing Director of The AAR Company[1], he is also founder and patron of the Abdullahi Bashir Haske Foundation[2]. Bashir is a fellow of the Business process management Institute and the Institute of Directors of Nigeria.

He is known in Nigeria and Africa for his numerous business ventures[3] and philanthropic support through entrepreneurial grants and an active covid-19 response outreach.[4]

He is listed by This Day news as one of the youngest billionaire in Nigeria[5]

Childhood and Family[edit]

Bashir was born in Yola, Adamawa, Adamawa State, Nigeria, on the 13th of December 1987, to Abdullahi Bashir Haske senior from Yola in Demsa Local Government Area of Adamawa State.[6] He grew up with four siblings, one of whom is Abdulrahman Bashir Haske, also a prominent businessman in Nigeria, he is the executive director of The AAR Company. [7]

He studied Political Science at the University of Abuja obtaining a Diploma and an MBA in Economics from Lagos Business School.[8]

Early Career[edit]

Bashir's professional journey started in 2005; as a general contractor, offering services to various sectors of the Nigerian economy including oil and gas, construction and public procurement.[9]. His entrepreneurial journey began when he founded the AAR Company brand, and over the years has built a group of ten independent subsidiaries, namely Mars E&P, Mars Multiconcept Limited, Manomi Support Services Limited, Etihad Trading Limited, Etihad Oil Fields Limited, Mars Aviation Limited, Nitroswitch Limited, H&W Rice Company Limited, H&W Starch Company Limited and Etihad Energy Limited respectively.[10] [11] [12]

As the Group Managing Director, Abdullahi Bashir provides business leadership, critical stakeholder management support, and entrepreneurial rigor for all key projects of the AAR Company, across the group’s business divisions. [13] [14]

The AAR Company[edit]

Abdullahi Haske Bashir is the founder and Group Managing Director of The AAR Company, a Nigerian group of company and sectoral player in the Oil & Gas industry, operating owned assets in the upstream segments as well as businesses of wholly independent companies in the Agri-business, Information Technology and Logistics sectors.[15] [16][17] [18]

Philanthropy[edit]

Abdullahi Bashir Haske Foundation[edit]

Bashir runs his philanthropic works through the Abdullahi Bashir Haske Foundation.[19] The foundation is focused on public health, disease eradication, access to effective healthcare and small business grants. Its area of operations are north and north central of Nigeria. He has received recognition for his work along this lines[20][21]

Awards and Titles[edit]

On the 4th of July 2020, Abdullahi Bashir Haske was awarded the Rising Star of The Year Award at the Nigeria Oil & Gas Awards[22]. He was installed as the Ciroma Ganye, Chiefdom of Adamawa State after his father, Abdullahi Bashir Haske senior[23]

Controversies[edit]

In March 2020 Abdullahi Bashir Haske was named in a controversial acquisition of oil blocks OML 123, 124, 126, and 137[24][25][26] held by Addax Petroleum, which was deemed unauthorized by the Federal government of Nigeria. The decision was overturned in April 2020 when it was determined that the transaction was illegal, citing his close relationship with the former Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Maikanti Baru and the manner in which the transaction was managed. However barely 12 months after it's decision, the Federal government of Nigeria on January 2022 reinstated the transaction [27][28][29]citing the inability of Addax Petroleum to effectively service the oil fields in the best interest of Nigeria.

Politics[edit]

Abdullahi Bashir Haske's political affiliations in Adamawa State is very broad, the Haske family dating back to its patriarch Alhaji Sadiq Haske, who is Abdullahi Bashir Haske's grandfather has been a key part of Adamawa politics. Abdullahi Bashir Haske was instrumental in the political outcome of the 2019 general elections[30] in Adamawa state. He is also married to the daughter of Nigeria's former vice president Atiku Abubakar.
