Abel Egbarin (born November 8 1972)is a Nigerian entrepreneur and philanthropist.[1] He is the Aare Borokini of Sonyindo in the Sagamu Kingdom of Ogun State, south west Nigeria.
Early Life[edit]
Egbarin was born in Remo, a town in Sagamu, Ogun state. He is a native of Agbor local government area in Delta State. He completed his primary and secondary education in Sagamu and graduated with a degree in management from the Olabisi Onabanjo University.[2]
Career[edit]
Egbarin began his career as a percussionist for Nigerian gospel singer, Baba Ara. In 2011, he set up his record label, Obimzy Records, which was responsible for the discovery of Junior Boy,[3] famed for his hugely successful collaboration with 9ice on the single Irapada,[4] and more recently Mr. Tunes and Clawd Boy.[5]
Egbarin founded Obimzy Properties, a real estate firm, based in Lekki, Lagos Nigeria.[6][7] He also founded the Obimzy Foundation, a non-profit organization involved in rural development projects and provision of relief items to indigent communities in Lagos and Sagamu.[8][9]
Awards and Recognition[edit]
Egbarin received the City People Real Estate Award for his contribution in the Real Estate Sector in August 2019,[10] and he received a special recognition award at the same awards in 2021.[11]
In May 2021, Egbarin was installed as the Aare Borokini of Sonyindo in Sagamau Kingdom, by the traditional ruler of Sagamu Kingdom, Oba Odofin Sonyindo Sagamu.[12]
Egbarin was honored alongside Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Zamfara State Governor, Bello Mohammed and other notable personalities at the 15th Annual Media Nite-Out Awards (MNA) in September 2021. He received the Hero of the Pandemic Diamond Award for his humanitarian work during the COVID-19 lockdown in Nigeria, when his foundation distributed over 30,000 relief packages to homes across Lagos and Sagamu.[13][14]
He was named Showbiz Entrepreneur of the Year at the City People Entertainment Awards in 2019.[15]
