Okey Samuel Mbonu is a Nigerian Africa advisor and media analyst based in Washington DC.[1]

Career[edit]

Mbonu divides his time between Abuja and Washington DC, where he provides strategic advisory on Sub-Saharan Africa to public and private institutions, the media in Washington and around the United States.[2] As an important resource in Washington, Mbonu features as expert panelist to ranking members at the US Congress, as well as to institutions such as Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, Organization of American States and others.[3][4]

Mbonu attended the University of the District of Columbia, from where he earned a Juris Doctor-Law Doctor of Jurisprudence in Law. He is considered one of the most influential Sub-Saharan Africa policy advisors in the US MSNBC and the United States.[5][6]

Political career[edit]

In 2002, Mbonu was appointed and confirmed by the legislature to oversee Housing Policy and Regional Development, in suburban Maryland (Washington metropolitan area) with annual multi-million development budgets. In 2004, he was elected for a two-year term as President of the first Nigerian-American Advocacy organization. While in Law School in Washington, Mbonu was elected one of five Senators to advise the University’s Governing body. In February, 2018, Mbonu was honored at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, in Simi Valley, California, United States.[7] On May 11, 2018, Mbonu declared his intention to seek the office of President of Nigeria, in a world press conference held in Abuja, the Capital of Nigeria.[8][9][10][11]
