Abigail Zhou
Abigail Zhou (born 2016) is an American chess player who holds the title of Woman Candidate Master (WCM), awarded by the World Chess Federation (FIDE) in 2024. She is the youngest American female to achieve both the WCM title and the United States Chess Federation (USCF) Expert rating.
Early life and chess beginnings
Abigail Zhou was born in New York City, the United States in late 2016. She began playing chess when she was exposed to chess at Kindergarten classes and quickly gained attention in scholastic and youth chess circles for her strong performances and rapid improvement.

State achievements
IIn March 2024, at just 7 years old, Zhou won the New York State Scholastic Championship in the Primary section for kindergarten through third grade students.
National achievements
By the age of 8 years and 10 months old, Zhou had achieved a USCF regular rating of 2004, earning her the rank of Expert.
International achievements
In 2023 and 2024, Zhou won the gold medal for the Pan America Youth Chess Festival in the Under 8 Girls section. As a result of her performance, before her 8th birthday in 2024, she was awarded the title of Woman Candidate Master (WCM) by FIDE, becoming the youngest American female ever to receive this title at the age of 7 years and 11 months old. Later in November 2024, Zhou competed in the FIDE World Cadet Chess Championship in the Girls Under-8 category. She won the silver medal, securing the second-place finish in her age group.
