Accurat is a data–driven design firm with offices in New York and Milan.[1] Founded in 2011 by Giorgia Lupi, Gabriele Rossi, and Simone Quadri, notable clients include IBM, Google, and Starbucks.[2][3] Accurat’s work combines data science with digital product design and data visualization to help organizations analyze information and leverage it for business.

Work[edit]

Accurat gained widespread exposure shortly after its founding, with a series of data visualizations that ran for two years in Corriere della Serra’s Sunday supplement, La Lettura.[4] Designs were noted for their depth and complexity, and circulated by publications including Fast Company, The Atlantic, and Popular Science.[5]

The company is known for an ethos coined “data humanism” by its founders, which foregrounds aesthetics for purposes of engagement and places equal importance on qualitative and quantitative information. Writing about this principle and the company’s overall approach, Liz Stinson declared the firm “one of the more intriguing information design studios in recent memory” in the AIGA blog Eye on Design.[6]

Other notable projects include an interactive app based on the 2016 election for Google, an AR–activated mural for Starbucks, and a desktop experience that allowed users to interact with astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti while she was in orbit.[7][8][9]

In 2019, Accurat was commissioned to create a work to serve as an immersive entry point for the XXII Milan Triennial, Broken Nature.[10] “The Room of Change” was a 100–foot data mural or “wallpaper” that illustrated human interactions with the environment from 2400 B.C. to 10,000 A.D. Alexandra Lange of The New Yorker described the work favorably, writing: “The wow factor comes when you step back and realize that all those numbers—all that data—look from afar like the sketch for a Bauhaus tapestry, done in colored pencil. The installation works as both visual art and a narrative of environmental decline.” [11]
